Silhouettes DC is centrally located in Fairfax County, VA, and serves the entire DC metro area--anywhere within a 100 mile radius of Washington, DC (additional travel charges apply for areas outside a 35 mile radius of DC).
Silhouettes DC is owned and operated by Marie Cheek, who has been a professional illustrator and artist since 1976. She began cutting silhouettes in 1995 at the request of a client, who had a children's Christmas Party to book and asked for something different from their usual caricatures or portraits of the kids. Mrs. Cheek suggested silhouettes, and after the client accepted, she quickly learned how to cut them and taught a crew of artists for that event. It was a huge success and the artists have been cutting silhouettes since then.
A few years ago, the Washington Post wrote an article about unusual jobs, and Mrs. Cheek was included in the group.
Silhouette cutting isn't considered an ordinary job, but it isn't odd or peculiar, either. Silhouette artists are just regular people with an unusual talent.
